Meet Katie Anderson, Senior Associate

Katie joined Bricklane last year and has quickly established herself as a core member of the Conveyancing team. Here we chatted about her role and her thoughts on the property sector.

What does a Senior Associate do?

I move properties through our pipeline – this involves liaising with solicitors and estate agents, reviewing Reports on  Title, and carrying out legal diligence on the properties we’re buying. Recently, I’ve also been helping with several of the REIT sales and assisting with work on the legal process for each transaction.

When did you join and how did you get into this role?

I joined last October. I hadn’t been actively looking for a new position when Mike reached out to me, but I really liked the sound of the role. I was also excited by the opportunity to use my previous conveyancing experience at a traditional solicitor’s office in an interesting new environment.

Once I’d applied, I had to complete a property-based task and a couple of interviews and here I am!

What’s your typical day like?

I start each day working with one of our solicitors, Juno, where we run through any queries they have about properties we’re buying.

After that, I’ll get my head down on the sales or Report on  Title reviews, which are core parts of my role and integral to successful property purchases. I’ll liaise with our solicitors and  Touchstone, our managing agent, to ensure we’re on top of enquiries. Depending on the day, we also have team or company-wide meetings, and of course, I’ll be getting stuck in with any projects or tasks that come up throughout the day!

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I feel Bricklane is very adaptable in how we work which ultimately leads to better working practices. If something in our system isn’t working optimally, we’ll look at what we can change to ensure we improve it.

How do you find it working in the real estate/property sector?

Really interesting – property is such an important topic so it’s always going to be useful to know lots about it.

What do you like about working at Bricklane?

The people are the main thing for me. Everyone in the business is great to work with and I love the office environment.

You also have flexibility and are trusted to get on with your work with support available if you need it.

What advice would you give to newcomers or future hires?

Be adaptable and be open to opportunities that come up, even if they’re not part of your core responsibilities. One of the things I’ve liked the most about this role is working on projects that have broadened my understanding of other areas of the business.
